The future of the feedlot could include autonomous feed trucks, enabling operations to focus more on product and less on equipment and operations. That is the hope of a Nebraska startup company called ALA Engineering. Currently, in the testing phase, ALA Engineering’s prototype vehicle has undergone trials in Nebraska feedlots. The prototype is a standard feed truck with some tweaks, and sensor systems on board, engineering the integration of human oversight alongside autonomous technology. ALA Engineering envisions a future where smart feedlot technologies and autonomy seamlessly integrate into everyday operations.

It is an Omaha not-for-profit with a global reach. Adaptive machinery allows blind and visually impaired employees at Outlook Nebraska to produce 25 miles of paper product per minute and package over 3.9 million rolls of toilet paper with 1.6 million pounds of paper converted each month – all of which are composed of 100% recycled fiber to increase sustainability. Outlook Nebraska’s mission is to positively impact anyone who is blind or visually impaired. Creating an adaptive environment and a culture of inclusivity at Outlook Nebraska has enabled employees to gain meaningful employment, a sense of purpose, social engagement, and opportunities for advancement within or outside the organization.

The World’s First Miniaturized Robotic-Assisted Surgery (RAS) System. The tiny surgical robot, known as spaceMIRA — which stands for Miniaturized In Vivo Robotic Assistant, performed several operations on simulated tissue at the International Space Station while remotely operated by surgeons from approximately 250 miles below in Lincoln, Nebraska. It is the first surgery demo in zero gravity. The milestone is a step forward in developing technology that could have implications not just for successful long-term human space travel, where surgical emergencies could happen, but also for establishing access to medical care in remote areas on Earth.
